As Friday afternoon rolls around, I begin thinking about potential evening activities. Before coming to any conclusions, a friend stops to ask if I want to play in a local charity Texas Holdem Tourney. With poker as an option, the rest of the choices typically pale in comparison.
Everyone should experience the thrill of a no-limit Texas Holdem tournament. The excitement you'll feel when you win a big hand and your chip stack begins to rise and the anguish that rushes over you when you find yourself all-in only to come up short on the river. There are no greater ups and downs than those in a no-limit tournament. But, you may also find yourself watching the clock as you gauge the size of your chip stack against the ever increasing blinds. One thing you can always count on is that the smaller the buy-in for the tournament, the faster the blinds will rise. And boy will they rise! Very, very quickly. Soon, luck will play nearly as large a role in the outcome as skill. With just a few bad rounds of cards, you may find yourself with little chance of victory. Of course, you can always shell out thousands of dollars for the larger no-limit tournaments. In these events, the blinds move at a snail's pace and give players plenty of time to play their best game. Unfortunately, not many people have that much disposal income.
Whenever you watch Texas Holdem on television, you always hear the announcers calling out the nicknames coined for various starting hands. On the World Poker Tour, they will often add a little caption in the bottom corner of the TV screen that explains the origin of the name. Every player knows the famous nicknames like "Big Slick" for AK, or "Pocket Rockets" for AA, or even "Cowboys" for KK.
It's Sunday morning and you wake up to the faint smell of empty beer bottles in your recycling container. There's pizza on the counter and pretzel crumbs on your carpet. It's the morning after your Saturday night Texas Holdem poker tournament. As you clean up the mess, you aren't thinking what slobs your friends are. Instead, you have a feeling of sadness because you know it's 3 long weeks until your next tournament. Never fear!! Online Holdem is here!!
