Monday, 19 September 2005 When poker players are away from the table, you will often find them with their heads buried in a poker book. Poker books can be an excellent tool to help you rapidly improve your play. Whether a beginner or an experience player, there are many books that can help your game. Some may appear dull and boring, focusing mainly on statistics and mathematics. Others may seem over simplified, and are only good for those who have never heard of the game. But, in between, are some wonderful editions to any poker player's library.
--> Hold'em Excellence by Lou Krieger
Hold'em Excellence is a fantastic book for the beginning Texas Hold'em player. This book can help starting players begin to understand the basic strength of starting hands in various positions - something many new players have little understanding of. Lou also provides the readers with a simple, easy to understand chart that can be a quick reference to help you make decisions at the table. Once you begin to play and have a better feel for the game, the information will become second nature. Hold'em Excellence focuses mainly on limit hold'em, but the information provided is just as valuable for starting players who want to play no limit. Championship No Limit & Pot Limit Hold 'Em by Tom McEvoy and T.J. Cloutier Championship No Limit & Pot Limit Hold 'Em is one of my favorite books on Texas Holdem. It provides invaluable information on how to play various hands, from each position, under different situations. When you are finished with the book, you will feel like your game has improved before you even sit down at the table. It is written in easy to understand language that is sure to improve your game if you are a no limit or pot limit player. The Professor, the Banker, and the Suicide King by Michael Craig The first two books may help you improve your overall poker game, but The Professor, the Banker, and the Suicide King was written for pure enjoyment. This is the story of the richest poker game of all time. It brilliantly captures the escapades of Andy Beal, a banker from Texas, as he challenges the game's best players at the highest stakes ever played. It's filled with story after story about your favorite poker players that you just can't find anywhere else. It's an amazing true story that's difficult to put down. There is nothing more enjoyable than playing the great game of Texas Hold'em. However, since we can't play all the time, try picking up a few books to help fill the void between games. |
