Whenever you watch Texas Holdem on television, you always hear the announcers calling out the nicknames coined for various starting hands. On the World Poker Tour, they will often add a little caption in the bottom corner of the TV screen that explains the origin of the name. Every player knows the famous nicknames like "Big Slick" for AK, or "Pocket Rockets" for AA, or even "Cowboys" for KK.

Here are some of my favorites that you may not have heard:

AJ	Ajax
K9	Canine
105	Five and Dime
95	Dolly Parton
102	Doyle Brunson (won 2 WSOP titles with these holecards)
57	Heinz
J5	Jackson Five or Motown
KJ	Kojak
88	Snowmen
55	Speed Limit

It seems like there is a nickname for nearly every possible starting hand combination. However, most are not as easy to remember as the ones listed above.

Make up your own and have some fun. After all, Texas Holdem is just a game.
