I say poker is more skill than luck. The reason I say this is because you have to read your opponents well. If you don't do so, it's not like playing poker with the family, you will lose, and you will lose a lot of money.

I agree with faradi that it takes both skill and luck. Skill doesn't get the cards to deal the way you want them, and luck isn't when you learn people's tells and can tell when people are bluffing.

I would agree that it takes a little of both. Skill in knowing when to quit and to read other people but luck in hoping you get dealt a good hand.

I think it's mainly luck but knowing what to do when you have the luck! So skill is a big part of it.

Now if I could figure out how to get some more luck that would be great. Maybe I just need some more skill at the game?

I agree that poker can be a game of luck in the short term, but so can craps, roullete, blackjack, and bingo. That does not mean you should play the game without any consideration to what the true odds are.
