I know this is definitely a noob question. Makes sense, since I AM a noob! lol OK, so what are the different types of Texas Hold'em, and what is the difference bt them? I hear people say 'No-Limit,' and I don't know what that means. lol.

My grandmother just recently taught me how to play. I'm not too great on knowing how much to bet, bluffing...I don't know all the hands yet and which ones beat the others...I guess I really am a noob. lol. Oh well, I'll learn as I play, I guess.

There are generally two main types of Texas Holdem games: 'limit' games and 'no-limit' games. They refer to the amount a player can bet.

For limit games, there are two variations: structured and spread limit. "Structured limits", the most common, are games when the bet at every round is fixed. For example, in a $1/$2 structured limit game, the first two betting rounds is $1 and the second two betting rounds is $2. In a $5/$10 structured limit games, the first two betting rounds is $5 and the last two is $10.

"Spread limit" games have a range of betting. For example, in a 1-4 game, in every betting round you can bet anywhere between $1 and $4.

In "no-limit" games, you can bet all the chips you have; no-limit tables have a maximum buy in amount. For example, in a $100 table, the maximum you can buy in for is $100. There are also "pot-limit" games, where the maximum bet is the size of the pot.

I hope that answers your question!

Yes! Thank you! It seems I have only played No-limit Hold'em. That would explain why I didn't know the difference. I am pretty good at it at least! I beat my grandmother who has been playing for many years and taught me!! lol

I wish I had found this forum when I first started playing. This is not a dumb question at all. My husband had to explain the difference to me also. Great information to have on here for newbies.

Yes there are too many sites where newbies are treated like morons.
