Most people know what a bluff is, but a semi-bluff? Bluffs have become so associated with daily life that the word has meanings outside the poker table; semi-bluffs, however, have application only within the game of poker.
Sit-and-Go (SnG) tournaments can be your ticket to a bigger bankroll and, therefore, makes an ideal game if you are a little short on cash. At the same time, playing a SnG tournament gives you a lot of opportunity to practice your poker skills. These poker bullies characteristically intimidate and ‘terrorize’ the people they play with. Their main aim is to win by default – bluff until the others drop out. When he comes up with a milking hand, though, he suddenly doesn’t know what to do. Or doesn’t he, really?
It has been said often enough in various forums that poker is a game of strategy – not just a game of chance. You refine your poker playing strategy as you become more experienced in the game. As with all games, there are times when certain situations call for specific moves or game plays which you need to keep in mind and use or adapt to the unique situations of a game.
The surge in poker’s popularity has given new meanings to words like “tight,” “loose, “passive” and “aggressive.” Of the four words which describe playing styles, most commentators and pundits have heaped praises on “tight and aggressive” – descriptions which many novice players have taken to heart and incorporated into their playing styles.
The problem for many is that it has become a matter of “acceptance without understanding.” Just because the experts praise tight and aggressive players, this does not mean that you should follow blindly – you should look beyond the meanings and apply the words and concepts to your actual situation.
