Due to the proliferation of online poker sites, choosing a poker room may be more difficult than you have supposed at first. Some of the sites may look like mere carbon copies of one another that you can easily get impatient and choose the next poker site you happen upon. Never make this mistake. Choose your online poker site according to the following criteria.
Income Making Potential
The amount of money you can make depends on the number of players. The more popular a site is, the better it would suit your purposes. Popular sites are bound to have more players; if they do not have that many players yet, you can be sure that such is a temporary condition. More players mean more choices of games since there are tastes that are more varied and more players to play with for even the most obscure poker variants. More players also mean more players to play with even at off-peak hours. As such, tables are filled up easily; this translates to lesser waiting times for 10-player tournaments, for instance. Moreover, more players mean more participants in tournaments and bigger prizes. Finally, a big network of players means site sustainability and longevity.
Poker Software
The software must be easy to download and install, must be easy to use and must be fast as well. If you prefer utilitarian software, then choose a site that offers no frills or at least offers you the option to turn off superfluous features.
Types of Games, Stakes, Limits
You should choose a site that offers more poker variants, particularly the games you wish to play in. You also have to see what types of tables they have. Do they have tables with fixed limits? Perhaps, they have only tables with no limits or pot limits. Can you afford the stakes? The table may have a fixed limit, but can you afford to play long at tables with a $10-minimum betting and raising?
Moreover, you have to ascertain the types of games that the site offers. Most poker rooms online provide both ring game and tournament action; however, most of them are better or are more focused on one type over the other. If you wish to play in single tables, then you had better choose a site with active ring game traffic.
Support, Bonuses and Promotions
You have to ascertain the methods for withdrawing your winnings. Some sites offer too few options to make winning worthwhile; what does it matter that you keep on winning if you simply cannot withdraw your money? It is better to choose a site that can process your payouts within three business days at most. It is also preferable if you can contact support through phone, email and live chat. To get the most out of your membership, you must also choose a site with the most favorable signup bonus and rewards system.

Given that most sites allow you to play for free, why not just sign up to lots of different sites and try them out? Then you can go with the one that suits you best!

Definitely a good idea Michael. Some sites are without question easier to make money off, while others are simply a waste of time, unless of course you're playing for fun. A bit of research can drastically help in this situation.
