Winning Your Game with an All-In PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 05 May 2007

Not everyone is a bona fide 100% poker winner. Every now and then, when you are playing online or in a casino, you will encounter situations where your cards are getting cold, your stacks of chips are dwindling and you are starting to sweat.

The difference between a good, skilled poker player and a poor player is the ability to recover and turn the dire situation around. Players deal with the situation differently.

Some players would attempt to steal pots while some would wait for a good hand. But when your bad luck continues and despite all your attempts to rectify the situation, you are still continuing to lose; your only option is to go all-in.

When to Go All In

When you decide to go all-in, you push all your chips forward into the pot. The move could either win or kill your game.

The effectiveness of an all-in depends on the number of chips the opponent who calls your bet has.

If you have less chips than your opponent, you will be out of the game after going all-in. This is what makes this move both powerful and dangerous.

Timing is essential when you are making this move. Unfortunately, timing is often particularly elusive.

So, how do you know when to go all-in?

The Timing

Ideally, you should not wait until your situation is hopeless and you are out of control.

Your opponents will predict your all-in move even before you have actually planned for it. They will just fold and you will probably lose.

It is also better to bet an all-in when you are relatively sure that the other players will fold when you make the bet.

The chances of forcing your opponents to fold are even stronger when you have more chips.

So, be careful when you have few chips left because you might be called by a player with more chips.

Avoid bluffing and try to steal the blinds as early as you can or you will definitely lose the game.

Before you actually go all-in, make sure that you have other options if you get stumped with your move. However, when you get an extremely good hand, it is best to go on an all-in before your chips fall into a dwindling finish.

You might incite more players to call out your bet and you would be able to double or triple your money and win the game.
